We’re done with the second week of the relocation, and I’m happy to share that we’ve finished moving the books and furniture into the Duclos building! The library team can now start unpacking and setting up the Mini Ilsley–and there is lots to do! Before we can open to the public, we need to update the online catalog location code for all the books in Mini Ilsley (about 10,000) and apply a special label to the spine, so we know which books belong in Middlebury and which belong in Vergennes. We remain on track to open Mini Ilsley before March.
In other news, we are getting closer to ReArch Company mobilizing on site at 75 Main Street. In preparation for this, ReArch has been working with a variety of Town staff and public officials to prepare the logistical plan for how the space immediately behind the library and Town Offices will be impacted by the project. You can view the complete site logistics layout here.

Our circulation desk was pushed on a dolly down Main Street! We were worried people would be frustrated with the inconvenience, but people cheered and waved as the desk made its way to the Duclos building.
Up next…
We remain on track to open Mini Ilsley by March 3rd, or even a bit earlier if all keeps going well, and in the meantime, don’t forget that Sarah Partridge has extended hours!
March 1st ReArch Company, the design-builder for the library renovation/expansion, will take possession of 75 Main Street. Their first step will be setting up a field office and fencing off the construction site.
Demolition tentatively begins in late March or early April.
