Ilsley 100 Project Community Update #8

One week left at 75 Main Street! As a reminder, the library’s last day in its current location will be January 31st. During the month of February, we will be moving the library, and the Sarah Partridge Branch Library in East Middlebury will have extended hours.

There was a lot of action going on behind the scenes this week at our temporary storage site in Vergennes! Middlebury College generously donated library shelving for us to use during the relocation period, and on Tuesday and Wednesday this shelving was moved to Vergennes. The delivery went very smoothly, thanks to our friends at Shacksbury Cider, who operate out of the same facility and who let us use their loading dock! The shelving was moved in pieces (images below) and will be reassembled the first week of February. Ultimately, this shelving will hold the majority of our collection!

Up next…

  • Last chance to purchase and pickup library furniture! If you would like to purchase old library furniture, you can view it here, and reserve it by emailing royce.mcgrath@ilsleypubliclibrary.
  • The last day to return materials to the 75 Main Street location will be January 30th! After that, please keep your borrowed books at home until we reopen in the Duclos building. Do not worry, these books will not be considered overdue!!
  • On February 1st the 75 Main Street location will be closed to the public and the librarians begin working with a professional library moving company to relocate the collection.
  • On February 3rd the Sarah Partridge Branch Library in East Middlebury begins special operating hours, Monday through Saturday.
  • The Ilsley Public Library will open in the Duclos building by March 1st. Operating hours will be 9 am to 4 pm Mon-Thu, 9 am to 5 pm Fri, and 9 am to 4 pm Sat.
  • March 1st ReArch Company, the design-builder for the library renovation/expansion, will take possession of 75 Main Street. Their first step will be setting up a field office and fencing off the construction site.
  • Demolition tentatively begins in late March.
