Ilsley book move gets big assist

It was a scene reminiscent of that masterpiece of American literature, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”

In that Mark Twain classic, Tom somehow convinces the neighborhood kids to take over his chore of whitewashing his Aunt Polly’s fence.

Heck, some of Tom’s pals even compensate him to get a turn with the brush.

This past Thursday, Aug. 6, scores of people packed downtown Middlebury’s Duclos building for the privilege of carting books — and undoubtedly at least one copy of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” — around 150 paces up Middlebury’s Main Street for drop-off at the newly expanded and renovated Ilsley Public Library.
