Ilsley Library begins new chapter

Ilsley Library Board of Trustees President Meg Baker had her choice of stunning attributes to reference while evoking the grandiosity of Middlebury’s newly renovated and expanded library building at 75 Main St., which was officially unveiled to an estimated 450 onlookers on Saturday morning, Aug. 29.
She could have saluted the new two-story addition, outdoor terrace, new spaces for youths of all ages, outdoor programming area, abundance of meeting rooms, ample natural light, and the architectural harmony between new construction and the original 1924 building.
But Baker deftly highlighted an inconspicuous door behind the library that a century of the town’s children have dutifully traversed for nursery school, where they’ve long learned about books and the joy of reading.
