MIddlebury Science Cafe – Fireflies with Greg Pask
Welcome to the Middlebury Science Cafe! Join us to chat about how science intersects with our daily lives in Vermont. Doors will open at 5:00 so there is time to grab a delicious coffee or tea from Royal Oak. The talk starts at 5:30 pm.
Get ready for firefly season with Greg Pask. As a professor in the department of biology at Middlebury College, one of the insects Greg studies is the Winter Firefly, a Vermont native sometimes found enjoying maple sap buckets in March and April. Unlike most of the fireflies we know from their flashy performances during summer evenings, the Winter Firefly does not produce light as an adult. Greg and student researchers are learning more about how the Winter Firefly and other unlighted fireflies use smell to find each other. Doors open at 5:00, the discussion starts at 5:30 and runs until 6:30. Coffee from The Royal Oak, decaf and caffeinated, is provided free of charge along with vegan nut-free snacks from Friday Bakery.
We are pleased to partner with Middlebury College for this program.
